I can remote and change some settings though. I can't physically get to or check the machine in any way because she's at a remote location.
I would've thought that if she had headphones plugged in that mostly all the sounds would direct to there but she claims it didn't. She said the email sound used to come through the speakers inside her tower and through her headphones but now it's just coming through Then click on 'Connector settings', in my version (6.) it's the yellow button under the device advanced settings, and check that 'Disable front panel jack detection. Click it and check if 'Mute the read output device, when a front headphone plugged in' is selected. The email sound comes through her headphones but if she's not wearing them she can't hear the sound. Open audio manager, on right top side there's 'Device advanced settings'.
